  1. Never, Never, Never give cash deposit.
  2. Always use a Credit Card when possible.
  3. Deal only with contractors that will except a credit card.
  4. Visit the contractors office or showroom (make sure they have one).
  5. Ask for a copy of the contractor license and verify that it’s still active at http://www.myflorida.com/dbpr/index.html
  6. Florida law requires that the contract applies for your permit within 30 days of receiving a deposit of 10% or more.
